Organic listings are free job postings pulled directly from your XML Feed or scraped from your career site. These are ranked on Indeed’s search result pages solely by relevance or date, according to Indeed's proprietary algorithm. These are the latest jobs related to the candidate’s search query, and will naturally fall back in search results over time as new roles are added.
Closing and reopening reqs will help to improve a job listings prominence in placing from an organic listing standpoint. However, Indeed will flag and blacklist any job postings that are constantly pulled down and reposted at an extremely high frequency. Reposting jobs more than twice a month will typically be flagged by Indeed’s Search Quality team and can result in your jobs being banned from Indeed altogether.
Sponsored Jobs have prime positioning in search results and are the most effective way to reach the largest number of qualified candidates. Indeed typically places Sponsored Jobs in the top and very bottom of their Search Results Pages where job seekers navigate between pages. Sponsored Jobs are only visible to candidates who enter search terms that are related to the job title, description, location and other information within the job.
Indeed's algorithm works similarly to Google. Results vary from person to person - every search will yield different results.
The job search algorithm at Indeed is a complex method of serving up relevant jobs to the individual job seeker. It's based on previous searches, a user’s cache/cookies from Indeed, that job seeker's profile and resume content, how they have interacted with your brand in the past, etc. Indeed's primary focus is serving content that is relevant for the job seeker and is not only based on bid rate.
Indeed does not operate like Craigslist where the most recent Sponsored Job posting will automatically be placed at the top of the search results. The job search results on Indeed are fluid and change throughout the day and time. For example, a search result can be conducted at noon and then the same search an hour later and the jobs at the top of the results page might change for the same user.
Unfortunately, Indeed will not provide data in terms of where our sponsored job listing is placed on average. Indeed's AI is designed to serve multiple employer job ads at any given time.
While the bid rate is an important way to get your jobs better visibility, it is not the only thing that Indeed focuses on when serving jobs.
Aggressively bidding and providing sufficient budgets helps with the chances of being seen by job seekers. However, lack of job seeker engagement will negatively impact job placement within the search results on Indeed. When candidates don't interact with the job postings or with your company page, this hurts organic and sponsored job positioning. Continuing to focus on increasing conversion rate from click to apply start through employer branding in addition to bidding competitively will be an important focus within Indeed's marketplace to ensure premium visibility.
