Grandma’s Chicken Soup #1: Recruitment News Served Hot!

by Scott Ryan on January 24, 2011

Things change every day in recruiting and recruitment advertising. I remember when newspaper advertising dominated the job search universe. (I am that old). Big job boards supplanted newspapers as the place for job-seekers looking for opportunities. While some things change for HR professionals and recruiters, some things never change.  You still need to determine the best way to find the most qualified candidates and help qualified job-seekers find you.

The way job-seekers are looking for a job is shifting dramatically.  They are using Google, Job Aggregators, social networking sites, etc-…to seek out employers of choice.  This is a good thing as you have a lot of options in how to connect with great candidates and build your brand. Yet, we are all inundated with articles about new job boards, recruitment widgets, trends in the industry, and what is going to be the Next Big Thing in recruiting.  Below are my picks for the more interesting articles of the week that pertain to the human capital industry.

Articles of the week

CareerBuilder quietly shuts down BrightFuse | Online Recruiting News http://bit.ly/gnmziU

BrightFuse??? Was the fuse ever lit? Did anyone even use this or know about it?

Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Make Me a Matching Job Tool – ERE.net http://bit.ly/h4JKcn

Are they really trying to go beyond the job board or is this just another flavor of a job board? A candidate could be a perfect match skill wise, but culturally not a fit for an organization.

Time to shut down Facebook? – Mass High Tech Business News http://bit.ly/hvzJyW

Not directly related to recruitment advertising, but the potential for targeted ads on Facebook for recruiting is enormous. How many HR Professionals/Recruiters have explored this option? Why not fish where the fish are?

Recruiters Change Employee-Hunting Tactics – WSJ.com http://on.wsj.com/gPbOO4

Right on! Posting on a job board helps the job board build its own brand.  There are so many effective avenues of online recruitment marketing that will help organizations build their own employment brand.

Dot Jobs “Universe” Growing Again; So Is Controversy – ERE.net http://bit.ly/eA74VR

Seems like more job posting pollution to me. Job-Seekers are just so much more savvier at finding opportunities today.  Is another domain the answer?
